This is the beginning!

Well after a shaky year which started on the 4th September, 2010 we are arriving into a new and exciting phase which we would love to share with all our past guests, colleagues, scientists at the National Science Foundation, Raytheon, and travel agents whom a lot of have become friends from all over the world.

We have a new building design now out on paper and the concept looks great including a few features and additions that we did not have before! (Here's a hint: Carting bags up the staircase is a thing of the past).

Pending building approval, the foundations will hopefully be laid in April, 2012. There will of course be a grand re-opening when construction is complete!

Many thanks to everyone who has helped us over the past year and emailed your support, it's been extremely appreciated and I don't think we could have done it without you. We look forward to meeting you all again in the "Devon 2.0" as soon as possible for a grand reopening!

Make sure you check this blog for updates every now and then and we'll upload photos of the progress as the new building is being constructed.

Any questions send Sandy an email or leave a comment below - We'd love to hear from you all!

Kind Regards,

Sandy, Benjamin, and Angus

Sandy, We were so relieved to hear from you after the 2nd big quake. We stayed with you shortly after the 1st big quake. We found Devon's address on a CC council list telling us that you weren't in the red zone so we kept hoping. We're happy for the wonderful news that you are rebuilding. We worried about you more when your website went down. Thank you for sharing your new blog & we look forward to watching the progress and seeing you again. Love and hugs.

We must have been one of the last people to stay in the Devon and have breakfast there on the morning of the 22nd. I have so often wondered how you got on and always looked out for the Devon in the news. I remember Sandy popping her head around the front door to make sure we were waiting in the correct place to catch the bus that morning which was very thoughful. We were in Akaroa when the earthquake happened but it wasn't too bad there. On our way back we were due to stay with you again but slept that night on the Christchurch airport floor! So glad to hear you are rebuilding and all the luck in the world with that. From Two Devonshire Dumplings (one in Auckland and one in the UK).
Mark Reese/Marcy Dawley 08th Feb 2012
Sandy, Mark and I were so happy to get your update letting us know of the re-build! We had many wonderful memories with you, Benjamin, Angus over the years, from drinking wine in the lounge to chats with you while Mark was on the ice and I was an "ice widow" in Christchurch. Although Mark and I miss Christchurch, New Zealand and all of the wonderful friends we have there we don't miss the earthquakes since moving back to Idaho! We are due for a visit next summer and look forward to staying at the new Devon! Our thoughts and prayers are with you, Benjamin and Angus! Love you, Marcy and Mark

Hello Sandy! You might recall we were booked to come for our second stay at The Devon the day after the quake. (We were under a table in a restaurant in Akaroa while the crockery and windows smashed around us). Our thoughts went out to you and we are so thrilled that you'll be rebuilding. Luckily, our family was uhharmed and they sustained only minimal damage to their home. Best regards,

Dear Sandy,
I stayed at the DEVON at the end of January in 2011. The earthquake happened one month after I left Christchurch. I was worried about you, Angus and the DEVON B&B. But I'm glad to hear that both of you are fine.Angus is lovely and I miss him. We also had a tremendous earthquake in Japan. Fortunately my hometown had no damage.
I would love to book the new DEVON when I visit Christchurch again.
Good Luck!
